Residents of the Arvilla apartment building are being forcibly evicted from their homes on the 4500 block of Osage Ave. Beloved neighbors were given less than two months notice to vacate in the dead of winter by the affordable housing organization that claims a mission of providing “sustainable homes“.
This is unacceptable.
Residents and concerned West Philadelphia neighbors are demanding a pause in the sale and a transparent, compassionate process that prioritizes the residents’ needs and keeps the building affordable.
In response to public scrutiny, Mission First gave residents an extension (until Jan 31st) and offered to reimburse moving costs, but this doesn’t address larger concerns about the treatment of the residents, the fate of the building, and the larger issue of the preservation of affordable housing in our area.
